Corinthian FC – History

Founded in 1972 by R.J. Billings Snr, Corinthian FC was established to provide football in a safe and enjoyable environment while promoting the values of sportsmanship, respect and fair play. The club’s motto, “Pro Omnium Beneficio” – For the Benefit of All – remains at the heart of its philosophy today.

Initially renowned for its thriving youth section, Corinthian regularly welcomed academy and representative teams from professional clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic and Norwich City. During the 1980s, the club progressed into senior football, competing in the Southern League before later returning to the Kent League.

Recognising the importance of developing home-grown talent, Corinthian temporarily stepped away from senior football in the early 2000s to rebuild its youth structure. That investment proved successful and, after a partnership with Welling United, the club returned to senior football in 2010 with a clear pathway from youth football through to the first team.

The club quickly re-established itself within the Southern Counties East Football League, recording a series of impressive finishes before mounting a memorable title challenge in 2018/19, eventually finishing runners-up.

The 2019/20 campaign promised even more success, with Corinthian leading the league, reaching the Kent Senior Trophy Final and progressing to the FA Vase Semi-Finals before the Covid-19 pandemic brought football to a halt. Although they were eventually beaten on penalties in the delayed FA Vase Semi-Final, strong performances across the two curtailed seasons earned the club promotion to the Isthmian League.

Corinthian adapted well to Step 4, finishing an impressive eighth in their first season before a rebuilding period resulted in relegation back to the SCEFL. Under Michael Golding, the Hoops responded superbly by reaching both the SCEFL Premier Division Play-Off Final and the League Cup Final in 2023/24, narrowly losing both to Erith Town on penalties.

An 11th-place finish followed in 2024/25 before Golding departed, with the club enduring a difficult rebuilding campaign in 2025/26 that ended in 14th place. A new era now begins under manager Mason East, who takes charge for the 2026/27 season looking to guide the Hoops back towards the top end of the Premier Division.
