Bearsted FC – A History
Founded in 1895, Bearsted Football Club is one of the oldest in Kent, with deep roots in the local community. The club played on Bearsted Green for over a century before moving to Honey Lane, Otham in 1998 to meet the demands of higher-level football.
After reforming following the Second World War, Bearsted competed in the Maidstone and District Saturday Football League. By the mid-1970s, they had become one of the area’s strongest sides, finishing as Premier Division runners-up three times before winning the title in three successive seasons.
The club’s youth section developed during this period with the addition of Bearsted Hornets. In 1982, Bearsted joined the Kent County League, going on to enjoy significant success, winning numerous league titles and cup competitions.
The club marked its centenary in 1995, before a key step forward came with the move to Honey Lane in 1998/99, allowing for continued growth and improved facilities.
One of the club’s standout seasons came in 1999/2000, reaching the semi-finals of the Kent Senior Cup—beating three Kent League sides—before losing to Deal Town, who went on to win the FA Vase. The same season also saw an impressive unbeaten league run into May.
In 2002/03, Bearsted were represented in a UEFA tournament through the Kent County League, with five players involved—an achievement the club remains proud of. FA Charter Standard status followed in 2005, and in 2006/07 the club reached the Kent Senior Cup Final, narrowly losing 1-0 to Whitstable Town.
A new chapter began in 2011 with entry into the Kent Invicta League, alongside plans for major ground improvements. These were completed in time for the 2015/16 season—when Bearsted were crowned champions and promoted to the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.
Since then, the club has established itself at Step 5 level. After steady mid-table finishes in the early years, recent seasons have shown progress, including 11th in 2021/22 and 13th in 2022/23.
The 2023/24 season marked the club’s highest-ever finish in the SCEFL Premier Division, placing 7th with 72 points. The 2024/25 campaign followed with a solid 12th-place finish.
Bearsted FC continues to build on its long history, combining strong community roots with ambitions for the future.
