Croydon and Rochester United maintained their perfect starts to the SCEFL First Division season on Saturday, while there was late drama at Greenways as Bridon Ropes were denied their first victory of the campaign.
Croydon remain top of the early table after producing the performance of the day with a stunning 6-1 victory at SC Thamesmead.
It was actually the hosts who made the perfect start, with Jamie Williams scoring after just two minutes, but their lead did not last long. Ali Fofahan levelled on eight minutes before Alex Arif put the Trams ahead midway through the first half.
Arif struck again immediately after the restart before Cameron Macmillan, Tom Barton and Harry Bradford completed an emphatic afternoon for Croydon, who have now scored ten goals across their opening two league games.
Rochester United are also two from two after winning 2-1 at Stansfeld. Two early goals from Aston Freeman, coming in the sixth and 17th minutes, put Rochester firmly in control. Louis Birch pulled one back for Stansfeld after 25 minutes, but Rochester held on to collect another three points and sit second in the table.
There was a six-goal thriller as Greenways and Bridon Ropes drew 3-3.
New signing, Max Cutler gave Greenways the lead after 17 minutes before Ivan Coromah equalised in first-half stoppage time. Two goals from Abdulai Turay then turned the game around and put Bridon 3-1 ahead with just four minutes of normal time remaining.
Greenways were not finished though. Josh Jackson had reduced the deficit on 81 minutes before striking again in the 90th minute to complete the comeback and rescue a point for the hosts.
Tooting Bec and Lydd Town shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Bailey McCarthy opened the scoring for the Bec after 19 minutes, with Lydd levelling in the 33rd minute. Both sides had to settle for a point, with Lydd remaining unbeaten after their opening two matches.
The scheduled game between Welling Town and Hythe Town was postponed.
After two rounds of fixtures, Croydon lead the way with Rochester United joining them on six points as the early First Division table begins to take shape.
