Easter Saturday didn’t disappoint – goals, shocks, and a few season-defining moments thrown in for good measure.
At the top, it’s now a straight duel. SE Dons were relentless in a 5-0 win at Bridon Ropes, striking early through Reece Barrett (8’) before Walter Figueira (30’) and another from Barrett (45+4’) had it done by half-time. Michael Kamara (50’) and Femi Akinwande (57’) piled on the misery after the break. Title-winning form, simple as that.
AFC Greenwich Borough matched them stride for stride with a statement 4-0 win at Croydon. Oghosa Williams opened the scoring (31’) before Joe Taylor marked his debut in style (49’). Williams grabbed his second (53’) and Fraser Page (74’) wrapped it up. Borough now sit three points off the top with a game in hand – which is basically football’s way of saying “this is getting serious.”
That result, combined with Rochester United’s 2-0 defeat at home to Lewisham Borough, probably ends Rochester’s title hopes. Alberto Garcia (56’) and Jeffery Oredein (82’) got the goals in what is easily Lewisham’s biggest result of the season. They climb out of the relegation zone, and suddenly survival doesn’t look like a long shot anymore.
Banstead Athletic gave themselves a lifeline too with a 1-0 win over Tooting Bec, Sam Haughey’s 31st-minute strike proving the difference. Banstead move up to 12th, while Tooting’s run now stretches to 18 league games without a win… which is less “bad form” and more “season-long crisis.”
Chessington & Hook are refusing to go quietly. They drew 3-3 with Lydd Town thanks to a hat-trick from Athan Smith-Joseph (1’, 45’, 90+7’ pen). It’s now 10 points to safety, so the odds are still stacked against them, but they’ve clearly not packed it in yet. Lydd, meanwhile, sit 14th and still looking over their shoulder after goals from Harry Byrne (19’), Charlie Gill (49’) and Connor Coyne (75’).
Welling Town’s situation, though, looks increasingly bleak after a 2-0 home defeat to FC Elmstead. Jack Hyslop (59’ pen) and Alfie Sanders (76’) did the damage as Elmstead keep their play-off hopes alive in 6th. Welling are in real danger now – no sugar-coating it.
In the race for the top five, Lordswood picked up a big 2-1 win at Staplehurst Monarchs. Thomas Davey struck twice (4’, 54’) to put them in control, and although Sam Sharp pulled one back from the spot (69’), Lordswood held firm. They sit 4th and tightening their grip on a play-off place.
SC Thamesmead may feel frustrated after a 2-2 draw with Sheppey Sports. Asad Mohamed (24’) and an own goal (78’) had them level, but it’s probably two points dropped given their situation. Darlington Aguagwa (51’) and Jack O’Neill (60’) were on target for Sheppey, who continue their push for a top-half finish.
So, where does that leave us? Two-horse title race. Play-offs still open. Relegation battle officially chaotic. And with a few games left, nobody’s sleeping easy. Exactly how it should be.
