The final day delivered everything it promised – drama, goals, and ultimately a new champion.
AFC Greenwich Borough are First Division champions.
A composed 2-0 win at Staplehurst Monarchs was enough to seal the title, capping a remarkable debut season. When it mattered most, they got the job done – no slips, no nerves, just champions’ football.
SE Dons did everything they could, and then some. A ruthless 7-0 win at Sheppey Sports showed exactly why they’ve pushed this race to the final day. But it wasn’t enough. They finish second and now turn their attention to the play-offs.
And those play-offs are now locked in:
Monday: SE Dons v Croydon
Tuesday: Rochester United v Lordswood
Croydon confirmed their place with a 1-1 draw against Welling Town – not pretty, but enough. Lordswood head into their semi-final with momentum after a 1-0 win away at Rochester United, which also gives a little psychological edge ahead of their rematch.
At the bottom, the final positions are settled. Welling Town’s draw wasn’t enough to lift them, meaning they finish bottom. Chessington & Hook also go down despite their late-season fight, while Lydd Town’s 2-2 draw with Halls AFC confirms their place in the bottom three.
Elsewhere, Bridon Ropes signed off survival with a 3-2 win at Banstead Athletic, while SC Thamesmead continued their strong end to the season with a 1-0 win at Lewisham Borough. FC Elmstead finished on a high with a 2-1 victory over Chessington & Hook, and Tooting Bec and Greenways played out a goalless draw to wrap things up.
So that’s the regular season done.
Champions crowned.
Play-offs set.
Relegation decided.
Now it’s all about who joins Greenwich Borough going up.
