Kossi Hat-Trick Fires Bridon Ropes to Crucial Victory

Bridon Ropes 3-1 Banstead Athletic

Bridon Ropes claimed a vital three points in Saturday’s only SCEFL First Division fixture, with Yedidja Kossi scoring a hat-trick to inspire a 3-1 victory over bottom club Banstead Athletic.

With the rest of the division involved in Kent Senior Trophy action, the spotlight fell on the Meridian Sports & Social Club for an important meeting between two sides struggling at the foot of the table.

Bridon made the stronger start, with Kossi opening the scoring in the 20th minute before doubling his tally just three minutes later to give the hosts an early two-goal advantage.

Banstead responded through Frankie Harris in the 40th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and keeping the visitors firmly in contention heading into the interval.

However, Kossi completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute to restore Bridon’s two-goal cushion and secure a much-needed victory for the home side.

The result sees Bridon climb two places to 14th in the First Division table, moving onto eight points from 11 games and recording only their second league victory of the campaign.

They are now four points clear of bottom club Banstead, who remain on four points after suffering their ninth defeat in 11 league matches.

For Bridon, it was an important afternoon in their battle to move away from the relegation places, with Kossi’s treble making the difference in a fixture that could prove significant as the season progresses.
