Beckenham Town – A History
Founded in 1887, Beckenham Town is one of the oldest football clubs in Kent and has been part of the county’s football landscape for well over a century. During its early years the club competed in the London League, Aetolian League and Greater London League, while also taking part in the FA Amateur Cup for more than 40 years. Former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan was among the club’s Presidents, highlighting the club’s long-standing place within the local community.
After merging with Bromley in 1969, Beckenham Town was reformed in 1975 and quickly re-established itself in senior football. The club joined the Kent League in 1982 and moved into its current home at Eden Park Avenue, where continued investment has created one of the finest playing surfaces in non-league football.
Silverware finally arrived in 2013/14 when Beckenham lifted the Kent Senior Trophy for the first time with a 4-0 victory over Ashford United. The Becks continued to establish themselves as one of the Southern Counties East League’s leading clubs, regularly challenging towards the top end of the Premier Division.
The club came heartbreakingly close to promotion in 2019/20, leading the league when the season was declared null and void due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A lateral move to the Combined Counties League in 2021 proved hugely successful, with Beckenham crowned Premier Division Champions at the first attempt to secure promotion to Step 4.
After four seasons in the Isthmian League, including a play-off challenge in 2024/25, the club returned to the Southern Counties East Football League following relegation at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
A new chapter now begins under manager Adam Griffin, who leads Beckenham Town into the 2026/27 season as the club looks to challenge for an immediate return to Step 4.
