Premier Division – Saturday Preview
After a goal-packed round of midweek fixtures, the SCEFL Premier Division returns on Saturday with seven matches.
Leaders Fisher are on the road, while several sides immediately behind them are not in league action, giving the weekend programme an interesting look at both ends of the table.
Bearsted v Corinthian
Two sides separated by just two points meet with both having played relatively few league games.
Bearsted are seventh with nine points from five matches. They began the season with three straight victories but have since suffered back-to-back defeats, the latest a 2-0 loss at Kennington on Wednesday night.
Corinthian arrive in good spirits after an impressive 5-2 win over Petts Wood & Holmesdale on Tuesday. That took them to seven points from four games, with five different players finding the net.
Erith & Belvedere v Fisher
The league leaders travel to the side currently sitting bottom of the table.
Fisher opened up a two-point advantage at the summit with Tuesday’s 3-1 victory at SE Dons, taking their record to 14 points from seven matches. They have now won three successive league games, with their previous two victories both secured by stoppage-time winners.
Erith & Belvedere have three points from five matches and will be looking for a response after Tuesday’s 5-1 defeat at Chislehurst Glebe.
Kennington v Chislehurst Glebe
Both teams come into this one on the back of midweek victories.
Kennington climbed to third with Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Bearsted, Tom Scorer and Elliott Moore getting the goals. They now have 11 points from seven games.
Glebe enjoyed their biggest league victory of the season on Tuesday, beating Erith & Belvedere 5-1 as Luke Medley hit a hat-trick.
Petts Wood & Holmesdale v Larkfield & New Hythe
Petts Wood & Holmesdale will be looking to bounce back after Tuesday’s 5-2 defeat at Corinthian.
They have six points from four games, while Larkfield sit three places higher with eight points from eight.
Larkfield have drawn their last two league matches, most recently 2-2 against Faversham Strike Force, when Daniel Gebor’s 81st-minute goal earned them a point.
Phoenix Sports v Rusthall
Rusthall head to Mayplace Road East as one of the division’s form sides.
Back-to-back 3-1 victories over Kennington and Beckenham Town have lifted the Rustics to eighth with nine points from five games.
Phoenix earned a useful point on Tuesday with a 1-1 draw against unbeaten AFC Greenwich Borough, Ricardo Thompson giving them an early lead before Joshua Shonibare levelled after the break.
Sutton Athletic v Hollands & Blair
Sutton return to action quickly after an impressive 5-2 victory over Tunbridge Wells on Wednesday night.
Tom Mitcham scored a hat-trick as Sutton doubled their points tally and climbed to 14th.
Hollands & Blair were involved in one of Tuesday night’s most dramatic games. A Dean Grant double helped them establish a 3-1 lead at Snodland, only for two Kian Scott goals in stoppage time to rescue a 3-3 draw for the hosts.
Blair remain sixth with 10 points from six games.
Tunbridge Wells v Beckenham Town
Two sides looking to bounce back from midweek defeats meet at the Culverden Stadium.
Tunbridge Wells were beaten 5-2 at Sutton on Wednesday despite having led 2-1 during the first half.
Beckenham, meanwhile, went down 3-1 at Rusthall on Tuesday. The Becks have eight points from six games, three more than Wells.
Fisher Looking to Stay Ahead
With Snodland Town, AFC Greenwich Borough and Faversham Strike Force all without Premier Division fixtures, Fisher have an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top.
Elsewhere, Kennington can continue their climb, while the likes of Bearsted, Hollands & Blair and Rusthall will all be looking to keep themselves firmly involved in a tightly-packed top half.
Seven games and plenty to play for as another busy SCEFL Saturday approaches.
