Kennington Go Second as Bank Holiday Weekend Continues

Kennington climbed to second in the Premier Division on Saturday, while AFC Greenwich Borough and Snodland Town also strengthened their positions near the top on another busy afternoon of SCEFL action.

Kennington 3-1 Tunbridge Wells

Kennington’s unbeaten start continued with an impressive 3-1 victory over Tunbridge Wells, taking them onto eight points from four games and up to second place.

Tom Scorer opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 34 minutes, giving the hosts a lead they held until an own goal brought Wells level in the 67th minute.

The response from Kennington was swift. Bradley Walledge restored their advantage just four minutes later before scoring his second of the afternoon in the 87th minute to secure all three points.

Kennington now sit just one point behind leaders Bearsted, although the Bears have played one game fewer.

Faversham Strike Force 1-3 AFC Greenwich Borough

AFC Greenwich Borough are another side yet to taste league defeat after an excellent 3-1 victory at Faversham Strike Force.

Experienced striker Stefan Payne put Borough ahead after 12 minutes before Arthur Penney doubled the advantage shortly before half-time.

Payne struck again nine minutes into the second half to make it 3-0 and put Greenwich firmly in control.

Kane Taylor grabbed a stoppage-time consolation for Strike Force, but the afternoon belonged to Greenwich Borough, who have made an excellent transition following promotion as First Division champions and now sit third with seven points from three games.

Snodland Town 1-0 Corinthian

One early goal was enough for Snodland Town to end Corinthian’s unbeaten league start.

Harry Hudson struck after just six minutes and Snodland protected that advantage for the remainder of the afternoon to secure a 1-0 victory.

The result takes Snodland onto seven points from four games and up to fourth in the table, level on points with AFC Greenwich Borough.

Larkfield & New Hythe 0-3 SE Dons

SE Dons produced an impressive away performance to claim their first Premier Division victory with a 3-0 success at Larkfield & New Hythe.

Andre Coker gave the Dons the lead after 37 minutes before Larkfield’s task became even harder when Andrew Mensah was sent off on the stroke of half-time.

SE Dons made their numerical advantage count after the break, with Liam Nelson-Martin doubling the lead in the 70th minute before Joshua Bohui completed the scoring four minutes from time.

The Dons have now collected four points from their opening two league games, while Larkfield have suffered three consecutive defeats following victories in their opening two.

Chislehurst Glebe 2-2 Fisher

There was late drama at Chislehurst Glebe as Fisher rescued a point in stoppage time.

Jamie Philpot gave Glebe a perfect start with a fourth-minute opener and the hosts remained ahead until Temi Alaka levelled for Fisher after 65 minutes.

Philpot struck again ten minutes later to restore Glebe’s advantage and put them within sight of all three points.

Fisher had the final say, though, with Euan Mutale scoring in the second minute of stoppage time to earn his side a 2-2 draw.

Hollands & Blair 1-2 Erith & Belvedere

Erith & Belvedere claimed their first league points of the season in dramatic fashion with a 2-1 victory at Hollands & Blair.

Alfie Bloomfield put the Deres ahead from the penalty spot after 24 minutes before Blair were reduced to ten men when Datiel Jackson was sent off in the 58th minute.

Despite being a man down, the hosts were level just four minutes later through Matt Gething.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Casey Dudley struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time, securing a valuable first league victory of the campaign for Erith & Belvedere.

The scheduled meeting between Rusthall and Petts Wood & Holmesdale was postponed, meaning PWH remain fifth with their perfect record of two wins from two intact.

After Friday and Saturday’s action, Bearsted remain top with nine points from three games, followed by unbeaten Kennington on eight. AFC Greenwich Borough and Snodland Town are next on seven, while Petts Wood & Holmesdale sit fifth on six with games in hand.

And there is little time to recover, with a full Bank Holiday Monday programme bringing another round of Premier Division action.
