Premier Division Preview
There is another busy couple of nights ahead in the SCEFL Premier Division, with seven games on Tuesday evening followed by one more on Wednesday.
Fisher have opened up a five-point lead at the top following Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Erith & Belvedere, but several of the chasing pack have games in hand and there are some important meetings towards the top of the table.
Bearsted v Snodland Town brings together fourth and fifth at Otham Sports Ground. Bearsted returned to winning ways in style on Saturday, beating Corinthian 4-1 with Matt Day scoring twice, and have 12 points from six games. Snodland are level with them on 12 points from seven and have lost only once in the league so far. Three points for either side would move them into second place.
Beckenham Town host Sutton Athletic with both looking for a response to narrow defeats at the weekend. Beckenham went down 1-0 at Tunbridge Wells and are without a win in their last three league matches, while Sutton were edged out by the same scoreline at home to Hollands & Blair. Just two points separate the sides in the table.
There is an intriguing game at Foxbury Avenue as Chislehurst Glebe welcome unbeaten AFC Greenwich Borough. Glebe have shown their attacking threat recently, following a 5-1 victory over Erith & Belvedere with a narrow 2-1 defeat at Kennington. Luke Medley has scored five goals across those two matches. Borough, meanwhile, have 11 points from only five league games and remain the division’s only unbeaten side.
Faversham Strike Force v Hollands & Blair is another important contest involving clubs in the top half. Blair climbed to third on Saturday after Dean Grant’s goal secured a 1-0 victory at Sutton, taking them to 13 points. Faversham have 11 points and were without a league game at the weekend, so victory for either would keep them firmly amongst the early front-runners.
Leaders Fisher host Petts Wood & Holmesdale looking to continue an excellent run. Saturday’s 3-1 win at Erith & Belvedere was Fisher’s fourth successive league victory and moved them onto 17 points. Petts Wood & Holmesdale drew 1-1 with Larkfield & New Hythe at the weekend, conceding a 90th-minute equaliser, and have seven points from five games.
SE Dons v Rusthall sees two sides looking to bounce back. The Dons were beaten 3-1 by Fisher in their last league outing, their first defeat of the campaign, but have played only four times and possess a +7 goal difference. Rusthall’s run of successive 3-1 victories was ended by a 3-0 defeat at Phoenix Sports on Saturday.
Tunbridge Wells entertain Corinthian after Wells picked up their second league victory of the season at the weekend. Regan Corke’s first-half goal was enough to beat Beckenham 1-0 and lift Wells onto eight points. Corinthian sit a point behind after their 4-1 defeat at Bearsted.
The programme concludes on Wednesday when Erith & Belvedere host Phoenix Sports. Erith remain at the foot of the table with three points and will be looking to halt a difficult run, while Phoenix arrive after one of their best results of the season. Goals from Jamarie Brissett, Khayrie Harris and Harry Barnes secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Rusthall on Saturday.
With Fisher leading on 17 points, Kennington on 14 and Hollands & Blair on 13, there is plenty of opportunity for movement behind the leaders. Fisher will be looking to keep their winning run going, while a number of clubs with games in hand have the chance to close the gap.
