Monday 12 October
Sheppey Sports v Minster
Tuesday 13 October
Staplehurst Monarchs v Rochester United
Wednesday 14 October
Halls v SC Thamesmead
Stansfeld v Lewisham Borough
There are four SCEFL First Division fixtures spread across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, with several clubs looking to make progress in a tightly contested league table.
The action begins on Monday evening when Sheppey Sports host Minster, with both sides coming into the game following positive results at the weekend.
Sheppey claimed a valuable 1-0 victory away to Banstead Athletic on Saturday, moving them up to 13th place with nine points from seven matches. Having played fewer games than most of their rivals, they have an opportunity to make significant progress up the standings over the coming weeks.
Minster have also enjoyed an encouraging start to the season and currently sit eighth with 17 points. They followed their dramatic victory over Lordswood with a late equaliser against Lewisham Borough on Saturday, extending their unbeaten league run to three matches. Another positive result would keep them firmly in touch with the leading clubs.
Tuesday brings an intriguing meeting between Staplehurst Monarchs and Rochester United, with both sides looking to strengthen their promotion credentials.
Rochester currently occupy second place on 22 points, level with leaders Lordswood but behind on goal difference. They were without a league fixture at the weekend and will be keen to return to the summit with victory.
Staplehurst have made a strong start of their own, losing just once in eight league matches. They sit ninth with 15 points, although they have played fewer games than many of the clubs above them. Their most recent league outing saw them hold unbeaten Hythe Town to a 2-2 draw, and they will be hoping to take another positive result from one of the division’s leading sides.
Two further fixtures complete the programme on Wednesday evening, including Halls AFC against SC Thamesmead.
Halls will be looking to recover from a difficult afternoon at Lordswood, where they suffered a 6-1 defeat on Saturday. They have collected five points from nine matches and will be hoping to improve their position towards the bottom of the table.
SC Thamesmead, meanwhile, sit fifth with 17 points from nine games and remain well placed among the promotion contenders. They have scored 26 league goals so far, a total bettered only by Lordswood, and victory would move them onto 20 points, within two of the current leaders.
The final fixture sees Stansfeld welcome Lewisham Borough in a meeting between two sides currently level on 17 points.
Stansfeld have been one of the division’s form teams in recent weeks, winning their last three league matches and scoring 12 goals in the process. Their latest victory was an impressive 4-1 success against Croydon, which lifted them into sixth place.
Lewisham sit one position below them in seventh and will be looking to build on Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Minster, where they were denied victory by a stoppage-time own goal. With both clubs looking to establish themselves among the leading contenders, Wednesday’s meeting provides an opportunity to move further up the table.
With Lordswood and Hythe Town not involved in the midweek programme, Rochester have the chance to take over at the top, while SC Thamesmead, Stansfeld and Lewisham will all be looking to close the gap.
Four matches across three evenings should provide plenty of interest as the First Division campaign continues to gather momentum.
