Holmesdale merger to bring growth and a name change
A significant development in local football will see Holmesdale 1956 FC and Petts Wood FC merge ahead of the 2026/27 season to form Petts Wood & Holmesdale FC.
The move brings together Holmesdale’s senior football presence with Petts Wood’s well-established youth setup, creating a full player pathway from grassroots through to senior level. The new club will also incorporate women’s and girls’ teams, strengthening opportunities across all sections of the game.
Both clubs share strong community ties, and the merger is designed to enhance development opportunities, coaching structures, and long-term sustainability while maintaining a local focus.
Holmesdale chairman Phil Alder said the merger “provides a real opportunity for people of all ages in the local community to get involved in a progressive football club”, adding that the new structure will allow football to be offered “from toddlers to veterans… right through to semi-professional level.”
Petts Wood secretary Meryl Clarke added: “This merger means that more able young footballers will no longer have to leave the Club in order to play at a higher level.”
Further updates will follow as the two clubs begin integrating operations ahead of the new campaign.
