Sutton Athletic Accept Nolan Resignation Amid Play-Off Push

There has been a managerial departure in the SCEFL Premier Division after Sutton Athletic confirmed that First Team Manager Peter Nolan has resigned.

The club announced that, following a lengthy conversation, they have accepted Nolan’s resignation, bringing his 18-month spell in charge to an end.

In their statement, Sutton placed on record their thanks to Nolan and his management team — Dean Rose, Paul Cook and Darren Wheeler — for their commitment and professionalism during their time at the club.

Nolan also issued a personal statement reflecting on his time at the club.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my decision to leave Sutton Athletic FC. I firstly would like to thank the Committee and the club volunteers, the players that have played for me over the 18 month tenure, the loyal bunch of fans and last but certainly not least my management team.

“Despite some sadness that this chapter has come to an end I will look back on a great 18 months at Sutton Athletic. My management team and I came into a club that needed a lift on the pitch and I think we delivered that.

“The 2024/25 season we achieved the club’s highest finish in their history guiding them to 8th place. This season has had some great days with four weeks in top spot and the management team receiving the Manager of the Month recognition for August.

“I feel we leave the club in a better place on the pitch than when we arrived and with good people around the club, I have no doubt that it’s a football club on the rise.

“I wish nothing but success to Sutton Athletic FC going forward. I look forward to watching some games for the remainder of the season and I wish all my fellow managers luck on achieving their goals for the season.”

Nolan’s tenure included that record-breaking 8th-place finish last season, while this campaign has seen Sutton firmly in the play-off picture for much of the year. The club currently sit 10th in the Premier Division table but remain well within striking distance of the top five.

The timing of the departure adds intrigue ahead of Saturday’s fixture, with Sutton set to host Stansfeld as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against Corinthian.

With the play-off race tightening and plenty still to play for, attention now turns to who will be tasked with leading Sutton through the final stretch of the season.
