Ground Name and Directions
Erith Leisure Centre Community Stadium, DA8 3AT
From Erith Roundabout, take Victoria Road, continue to T-junction, turn left onto Avenue Road, and then first right into Leisure Centre.
Do not enter the ground via the leisure centre reception – there is a separate football ground entrance in the car park, with a supporter’s entrance sign next to the turnstile.
Welling Town – A Short History
Founded in 2014, Welling Town FC began life as a Sunday side playing at Hall Place, Bexley, competing in the London and Kent Suburban League. Success came quickly, with back-to-back promotions before the club expanded to field a second Sunday team in the Woolwich and Eltham Sunday Football Alliance.
In 2016, the club made the move into Saturday football, joining the Kent County Football League. Their progress continued at an impressive rate, winning promotion and the West Kent Challenge Shield in their debut season before enjoying a remarkable 2017/18 campaign. Welling Town claimed the Kent County League Second Division title, retained the West Kent Challenge Shield and lifted the Kent Junior Cup, completing a memorable treble while losing just one match in 53 games.
Following that success, the club were accepted into the Southern Counties East Football League First Division for the 2018/19 season. They immediately made their mark by winning the First Division title at the first attempt, earning promotion to the Premier Division and securing places in both the FA Cup and FA Vase.
The club’s first seasons at Step 5 included an impressive run to the Third Round Proper of the FA Vase during 2019/20, while also establishing themselves in the Premier Division before the Covid-19 pandemic brought two successive seasons to an early conclusion.
After groundsharing with Kent Football United and later Chatham Town, Welling Town returned closer to home by moving to Phoenix Sports for the 2023/24 campaign. However, the season ended in relegation back to the First Division after five years at Step 5 – an impressive achievement for a club that had risen rapidly through the football pyramid in less than a decade. Erith Leisure Centre was then to become the club’s new base.
Welling Town finished 17th in both the 2024/25 and 2025/26 campaigns, but with Kevin Oakes and Richard Bennett heading a new management team, the Boots will be hoping to build on those foundations and challenge higher up in the First Division table.
