Kennington FC – History
Kennington FC is one of Kent’s oldest football clubs, with records showing the club’s existence as early as 1885. For many years, the Ton competed in the Ashford & District League, building a proud reputation within local football before taking the step into the Kent County League during the 1980s in pursuit of higher-level competition.
The club has long placed great emphasis on youth development, with a thriving junior section providing a pathway into senior football for generations of local players.
A landmark moment came in 2017/18 when Kennington were crowned Kent County League Premier Division Champions, earning promotion to the Southern Counties East Football League. Groundsharing at Ashford United’s Homelands Stadium, Dan Scorer’s side enjoyed an outstanding debut season at Step 6, finishing third in 2018/19.
The following two campaigns brought more milestones as the Ton made their FA Vase and FA Cup debuts, while promotion to the SCEFL Premier Division was achieved in 2021 through the FA’s National League System restructuring. The club adapted well to life at Step 5, finishing an impressive fifth in their first Premier Division campaign and reaching the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Recent seasons have proved more challenging, with Kennington finishing 12th in 2022/23, followed by 17th, 15th and 16th-place finishes over the next three campaigns. Despite those struggles, the club has maintained stability under the leadership of Dan Scorer, who enters his 12th season in charge in 2026/27 as he looks to guide the Ton up the Premier Division table.
