Petts Wood & Holmesdale FC – A Short History
The club’s roots lie with Holmesdale FC, originally formed as Holmesdale Baptists in the early 1920s before being re-established in 1956. Over the following decades, Holmesdale climbed through the local football pyramid, winning league titles in the Thornton Heath & District League, Surrey South Eastern Combination and Kent County League before earning promotion to the Kent League in 2007.
Following the Kent League’s transition into the Southern Counties East Football League, Holmesdale became an established member of the competition, gaining promotion back to the Premier Division through the National League System restructuring in 2021 after the club’s strong performances during the Covid-interrupted seasons.
Based at Oakley Road in Bromley since 2000, Holmesdale has continued to compete at Step 5, recording Premier Division finishes of 12th, 17th, 16th, 13th and 15th over the past five completed seasons.
A landmark moment in the club’s history came ahead of the 2026/27 season with the merger of Holmesdale FC and Petts Wood FC, creating Petts Wood & Holmesdale FC. The merger combines Holmesdale’s senior football experience with Petts Wood’s thriving youth section, creating a clear development pathway from grassroots football through to the first team, while also incorporating women’s and girls’ football into the club’s structure.
The new club begins an exciting chapter under the joint management of Andy Constable and Peter Nolan, with ambitious plans both on and off the pitch as it looks to build a sustainable future at the heart of the local community.
