Lewisham Borough (Community) – A Brief History
Founded in 2003, Lewisham Borough (Community) FC was created through the merger of Elms FC, Moonshot FC and Ten Em Bee FC, bringing together three established clubs with a shared ambition to provide a clear football pathway for the local community. The club was founded by Ray Simpson, George Davis, Joe Collymore and the late Clinton Rhule, whose contribution to the club is commemorated through the Clinton Rhule Stand at Ladywell Arena.
Success came quickly, with Borough winning Division One West of the Kent County League in their inaugural season before securing the Kent County League Premier Division title in 2005/06. Senior status followed in 2006, while the club was awarded FA Charter Standard status in 2010 in recognition of its commitment to community football and player development.
Lewisham Borough became founder members of the Kent Invicta League in 2011 before joining the Southern Counties East Football League First Division following the league merger in 2016. The 2016/17 season also saw the opening of the 100-seat Clinton Rhule Stand, while the following year the club made its debut in both the FA Vase and FA Youth Cup.
The Boro have now completed a decade as an established Southern Counties East Football League club, with recent seasons including a play-off challenge in 2023/24. Playing at Ladywell Arena, the club continues to develop both its facilities and its place within the local community, with ambitions to progress on and off the pitch for many years to come.
