A new month begins with a busy programme of SCEFL Premier Division football on Saturday, and with clubs having played anything from six to ten league games so far, there is still plenty of movement to come in a table currently headed by Fisher.
The leaders travel to Larkfield & New Hythe looking to continue an impressive run that has taken them to 23 points from ten matches. Fisher have certainly provided entertainment along the way, scoring a division-high 34 goals, and last Saturday’s extraordinary 5-4 victory over Bearsted was their latest contribution. Larkfield sit 15th on nine points and will be aiming to halt the leaders while ending their own five-match winless run.
Behind Fisher, Hollands & Blair have quietly put together an excellent start. Their 2-0 victory over Tunbridge Wells last weekend moved them onto 19 points from nine games, four behind the leaders with a game in hand. They now travel to Petts Wood & Holmesdale, who have played only seven league matches and will be keen to respond after successive high-scoring defeats against Fisher and Chislehurst Glebe.
There is an intriguing contest at Otham where Bearsted host AFC Greenwich Borough. The Bears slipped out of the top five following their 5-4 defeat at Fisher but remain firmly in the mix with 13 points from eight games. Greenwich Borough are fourth with 14 points despite having played only seven times, so both sides have an opportunity to strengthen their position among the leading group.
Faversham Strike Force and Snodland Town meet with just one point separating them. Strike Force climbed to fifth following their 3-2 victory at Rusthall, while Snodland suffered a narrow 1-0 home defeat against Greenwich Borough. With both clubs having already played at least nine matches, three points here could prove useful in a congested upper half.
Third-placed Kennington will look to bounce back when they welcome Beckenham Town. Kennington’s 2-1 defeat at Sutton Athletic was their third loss of the campaign but they remain on 14 points, while Beckenham have endured a difficult spell and come into the game following a 5-0 home defeat against SE Dons.
There should be plenty of interest too when Sutton Athletic host Corinthian. Sutton have won four of their eight matches and climbed into the top half after Chris Loko’s late winner against Kennington. Corinthian are only a point behind them and have played one game fewer, having produced an impressive second-half display to beat Erith & Belvedere 5-2 last weekend.
At Jockey Farm, Rusthall welcome Erith & Belvedere with both looking for a response to Saturday defeats. Rusthall went down 3-2 against Faversham Strike Force and sit 11th on 12 points, while the Deres remain at the foot of the table with three points from eight matches.
The remaining fixture brings together Tunbridge Wells and Phoenix Sports. Phoenix have climbed to eighth after consecutive victories, following up their dramatic midweek success at Erith & Belvedere with a 1-0 win over Larkfield. Wells are just four points behind and will be hoping home advantage can help them respond to last weekend’s defeat at Hollands & Blair.
