Saturday 10th October
Premier Division – Saturday Preview
Beckenham Town v Petts Wood & Holmesdale
Erith & Belvedere v Sutton Athletic
The FA Vase takes centre stage across the SCEFL this weekend, leaving just two Premier Division fixtures on Saturday – and both have plenty of importance towards the bottom end of the table.
Beckenham Town host Petts Wood & Holmesdale at Eden Park Avenue with the two sides currently sitting immediately above the relegation places. Petts Wood are 16th with eight points from eight matches, while Beckenham have the same points total from ten games and occupy 17th on goal difference.
It has been a difficult opening couple of months for Beckenham, who have won just twice in the league and have scored only eight goals. Last weekend brought another setback as they were beaten 2-0 at Kennington, and they will be looking for a response on home soil.
Petts Wood & Holmesdale have played two games fewer and picked up a useful point last Saturday when a much-changed side drew 1-1 with second-placed Hollands & Blair. Mo Diaby scored their equaliser that afternoon, and another positive result this weekend would give them the opportunity to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom two.
The other game sees Erith & Belvedere host Sutton Athletic, with the Deres in particular in need of points. They sit bottom of the division with just three points from nine matches and have now lost eight league games. A 4-0 defeat at Rusthall last weekend continued a tough start which has seen them concede 31 goals.
Sutton arrive in considerably better shape. They are tenth with 13 points from nine games and have won four times, although last Saturday’s meeting with Corinthian ended goalless. Victory here could move them further into a tightly packed middle section of the table.
With the majority of the division involved in FA Vase action, the spotlight in the Premier Division falls firmly on these four clubs. For those towards the bottom, a relatively quiet league afternoon could prove to be a very important one.
Both matches kick off at 3pm, with updates available throughout the afternoon via Football Web Pages.
