The final Saturday of February delivered a full First Division programme — no small achievement given the weather — and it produced a pivotal afternoon at both ends of the table.
The headline act came at Oakley Road, where Rochester United won the game of the day, beating title rivals AFC Greenwich Borough 3–1. Mack Reilly struck twice to put the visitors in control before Daniel Lott added a third to silence the home crowd. Abel Vendrells pulled one back late on with a fine effort, but the damage was done. The result pulls both sides level on 52 points, still 12 behind the leaders but with games in hand that keep the title conversation very much alive. Rochester laid down a marker; Greenwich now have to respond.
At the summit, SE Dons simply keep ticking off the wins. A narrow 1–0 victory over Tooting Bec, courtesy of an Andre Coker penalty, extends their advantage to 12 points. The Bauvill remains a fortress — still unbeaten in the league — and with nine games to go the Dons are firmly in command. The job isn’t finished, but they are ticking them off, being relentless and making it look increasingly methodical.
In the race for the play-offs, Lordswood strengthened their grip on fourth with a composed 2–1 win at Greenways. Alfie Clark and Thomas Davey struck at key moments, and although Sholade Komolafe gave the hosts late hope, Lords saw it out. FC Elmstead are also right in the thick of it, Owen Raymen’s goal enough to secure a 1–0 win at Lewisham Borough. Elmstead sit sixth and closing, while Borough are now only outside the drop zone on goal difference and nervously glancing over their shoulder.
Down at the bottom, Bridon Ropes may have given themselves a lifeline. A dramatic 2–1 win over Lydd Town — sealed by a stoppage-time winner from Elias Ahmed — ends an eight-game wait for victory and breathes life into their survival hopes. Lydd, despite a Tyler Sterling penalty, remain firmly in the scrap. Banstead Athletic also picked up a vital three points, Finn Haughey’s early strike earning a 1–0 win at SC Thamesmead. Both sides are still in the fight, but Banstead edge forward with renewed belief.
Elsewhere, Halls AFC edged basement side Chessington & Hook 2–1 thanks to a brace from Joseph Freeman. Halls look comfortably mid-table, unlikely to be dragged into trouble or launch a late surge. For Chessington, ten points from their nearest rivals and twelve from safety, the clock is ticking loudly.
Elsewhere, Staplehurst Monarchs and Sheppey Sports shared a 1–1 draw, Jake Abrahams’ late equaliser cancelling out Finn Haughey’s opener in a game between two sides hovering just outside the serious play-off push.
With every match getting played — while others elsewhere fell victim to the elements — it was a significant afternoon. The leaders remain strong, the challengers refuse to go away, and at the bottom the fight is getting desperate. March is looming, and the margins are only getting tighter.
