Take B2075 to Lydd, over Railway Bridge then left fork to roundabout. Take 2nd Exit into Robin Hood Lane. Straight on at sharp right bend. Ground 100 yards on left.
Lydd Town F.C. – A brief history
Founded in 1885, Lydd Town FC is one of Kent’s oldest football clubs. Originally playing at The Banks before moving to The Rype in 1911, the club has been an important part of the local community for well over a century. Their first recorded trophy success came in 1909/10 when they lifted the Rye Charity Cup, while the club adopted its now familiar red and green colours in 1921.
Following the Second World War, Lydd enjoyed a sustained period of success, winning numerous league titles and cups before joining the Kent Amateur League. The club’s most successful spell came during the late 1980s and early 1990s, when they won five consecutive league championships and numerous cup competitions, establishing themselves as one of the strongest sides in Kent football.
A move to senior football followed in 1994, while the opening of The Lindsey Field in 1999 secured the club’s long-term future. Named after long-serving player, manager and chairman Pat Lindsey, the ground remains the home of the Lydders today.
After several years fluctuating between divisions, Lydd became founder members of the Kent Invicta League in 2011 and established themselves within the Southern Counties East Football League structure. Their finest recent achievement came in 2022/23, when they finished third in the First Division before defeating Faversham Strike Force in the play-off semi-final and Tooting Bec on penalties in the final to secure promotion to the Premier Division.
The return to Step 5 lasted two seasons before relegation at the end of the 2024/25 campaign – aided by a late points deduction. A difficult 2025/26 season again followed, with the club finishing 16th in the First Division. Ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Dexter Gondogwe has the aim of leading the Lydders back up the table and challenging once again for promotion.
