BANSTEAD ATHLETIC …. a brief history
Founded in 1944 as Banstead Juniors, the club adopted the name Banstead Athletic two years later and immediately enjoyed success, winning the Surrey Intermediate Cup before embarking on a remarkable period in the Surrey Senior League. Between 1950 and 1965, Banstead won six league championships, establishing themselves as one of Surrey’s leading amateur clubs.
The club stepped up into the Spartan League in 1965 before later competing in the Athenian League and, following its dissolution, the Isthmian League, where Banstead spent more than two decades competing at Step 4 and Step 5 of the non-league pyramid.
Following their resignation from the Isthmian League in 2006, the club joined the Combined Counties League, where they rebuilt before winning the Division One title in 2016/17 to earn promotion back to the Premier Division. League restructuring later saw Banstead move into the Southern Combination League, before another lateral move brought the club into the Southern Counties East Football League First Division ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The club adapted well to its new surroundings, finishing 13th in its debut SCEFL campaign. Manager Keith Ward remains in charge for the 2026/27 season as Banstead Athletic looks to continue establishing itself within the First Division.
