It was another goal-packed pre-season Saturday and the perfect way to bring this practice period to a close as we finally look ahead to the Campaign kicking-off in the next few days.
The only place to start is at Cobdown where two of our sides produced a 15-goal feast of football for the fans present along the sidelines. Beckenham Town won it 11-4 against a Greenways side that were involved in plenty of high-scoring affairs last term. Jamie Humphries hit a hat-trick for Becks as they warmed up nicely for their FA Cup trip to Mile Oak while Brad Cross and Simon Walton both scored twice for the Greens. Count Beckenham Town out of the Premier Division Title Race at your peril.
There were plenty more goals in games between SCEFL sides elsewhere too. Ryan Golding hit 2 of Welling Town’s 5 against FC Elmstead while Croydon from behind to draw 3-3 at Balham. Rylah, Smith and Somo all on the scoresheet again for the Trams.
Bearsted beat Sutton Athletic 2-0, Fisher won at Stansfeld 1-0, Hollands & Blair were 2-0 winners at home to Meridian VP, thanks to two Ben Brown headers, and Deal Town won 3-1 at Lydd Town. Luke Eldridge, Ben Cardwell and Lee Scott scoring for the Hoops in that one. At Martyns Grove Leon Woolnough got the only goal of the game as Forest Hill Park beat Lordswood 1-0.
There were plenty of SCEFL v Isthmian League clashes with our teams faring pretty well on the whole!
Erith Town were 2-1 winners at Faversham Town, while Brett Ince, Regan Corke and Ryan Cheek all scored for Tunbridge Wells in a 3-1 win at home to South Park. Corinthian warmed up for a HUGE week for the Club by beating Lewes 2-0 while Glebe drew 2-2 against Isthmian South East favourites Hastings United. Eric De Melo and Frankie Sawyer with the goals for the hosts at Foxbury.
Elsewhere AFC Croydon lost 3-1 at home to Corinthian Casuals and Herne Bay won 4-2 at Punjab United.
There was a trio of wins for our teams against sides from the Kent County League. Canterbury City won 5-0 at Thanet United, SC Thamesmead beat Crockenhill and Sam Winch was once again among the goals as Snodland Town beat New Romney 3-1.
We finish the round-up with Crowborough Athletic grabbing a 3-1 win at home to Seaford Town, with Danny Powell and Dom Welsh both netting, while Joe Brown, Jack Kirby and James Naylor all scored for Bridon Ropes in a 3-2 win at Lingfield.
The proper stuff gets under way on Tuesday night in the FA Cup before the League campaign kicks-off on Saturday.
