Tuesday night’s 7 games produced 30 goals and plenty of drama as the leadership of the Division changed hands and one of the title favourites lost their winning record.
Chatham Town went in to their home game with Tunbridge Wells on the back of 9 wins in a row in all competitions as well as being the tieam that sat at the top of the table. That all changed after this game though as Wells produced a great performance and a bit of a shock result to come away as 3-2 winners.
The hosts had taken the lead early on in the game with Dan Bradshaw netting his 10th goal so far but that was levelled before the break by an unfortunate own goal. The visitors then took the lead when a Euan Shadow’s corner was fumbled over the line but we were once again level once Jon Pilbeam finished well from the edge of the box just before the hour mark.
Former Golden Boot winner Richard Atkins was to provide the match winner in the 63rd minute when he converted a fine team move into the top corner, giving his new side all 3 points and a move up to 2nd place in the table.
Corinthian are the new leaders and the only side in the Division with a 100% winning record after comfortably beating basement boys Tower Hamlets 6-2.
It was 6 different scorers for the Hoops, with James Trueman, Emmanuel Oloyede, Jack Billings, Ryan Sawyer, Frankie Morgan and Luke Tanner all netting, as they made it 6 wins from 6 games to move to the top of the pile.
Tower Hamlets also have a 100% record but unfortunately that is a losing one, with the only positive being another stunning goal from star midfielder Denilson Carvalho.
Glebe made it back-to back victories and 3 wins from 4 with a 3-2 home success against Welling Town.
The game started at a lightening pace with Charlie MacDonald scoring on 5 minutes before Ashley Wright headed home the equaliser almost immediately after.
MacDonald then turned provider, back-heeling the ball to Frankie Sawyer for a simple finish before Sawyer made it 3-1 with a stunning strike into the top corner in the 20th minute.
Ryan Golding had to wait until midway through the second half to get his customary goal, but he got it, converting a penalty to continue his record of scoring in every league game so far this season.
That was to be the end of the goal action though and with the win Glebe move up to 11th place in the table.
Sheppey United kept their unbeaten run going with a 5-2 win at Bearsted.
The ‘Ites’ have now won 5 of their 6 League games, drawing the other and sit in 3rd place in the table.
Danny Leonard scored first and last with Warren Mfula and Junior Akhionbare also netting while the Bears got their goals from Lucian Scarlat and Andy Irvine.
Balham moved up to 6th position in the table when coming from behind to beat Erith & Belvedere at Park View Road.
Jamie Humphris had given the Deres a 27th minute lead before Tom Read grabbed his 7th goal of this young season.
Cam Gordon won the game for the visitors before the break claiming his 4th goal of the campaign and all 3 points for Balham.
Billy Munday and Bradley Baker scored the goals for Deal Town in a 2-0 home win against Lordswood.
The visitors won the Red Card count 2-2 but lost the game and with the victory Deal move into the top half of the league.
AFC Croydon and Beckenham Town played out a 0-0 draw at the Mayfield Stadium, the 3rd goalless game in the SCEFL this season so far.
