Squad shapes up for Sports

Phoenix Sports are looking to make their return to the SCEFL a short one.

Signings announced ahead of the 2022/23 season show their intent that promotion is the aim of the game this year.

The Club revealed a number of incomings to the Mayplace Ground via their website…

Our First Team Manager has been busy shaping his squad to take on the SCEFL Premier Division in the 2022/23 season.

Many faces will be familiar with a large proportion staying on from that that finished the 2021/22 campaign. Alfie Evans was one of those to commit to another year at the club.

There are new arrivals too though…

Dave Martin needs no introduction to football fans so we won’t give him much of one.

A league winner with Hastings United last year and former Millwall star, this aggressive midfielder will line-up in the green of Phoenix next year, and for that we are very pleased.

Boyley: “Dave is a massive signing for this football club, an ex-professional who has played over 200 games in the football league at clubs such as Millwall and Crystal Palace – this signing shows real ambition for what Phoenix Sports want to achieve this season!”

Rhys Paul is well known to the boss from their short spell together at Greenwich Borough a few years back.

He is a tall and strong defensive player, very experienced and will be a huge presence at the back for Phoenix.

Boyley: “I am so pleased to bring Rhys to the club, his stature, knowledge and experience of the game will be a great asset to the club”

Next-in is Ryan Hayes.

Ryan is a flying winger best known for his time at Dartford FC in the National League South.

He also gained promotion from this Division with Chatham Town last year so with his talent and know-how he is sure to be a key player for us as we bid to quickly return to from where we just came.

“Ryan is a fantastic player – with lots of experience in this division and much higher. He has today committed to play for the club for the next 2 seasons. He is a quality signing and will be a great asset to Phoenix.”

Following on from Steve Phillips between the sticks is no easy challenge so we are delighted to have brought in Andy Walker as our goalkeeper for the 2022-23 season.

Andy has had a fantastic career and his experience is going to be vital for us. Last season he helped Chatham Town gain promotion. He has also won the SCEFL Premier Division and reached an FA Vase final with Cray Valley.

Steve O’Boyle has also made some new additions to his management team!

We welcome Anthony Gradley and Dean Bowey to the football club – We are excited to see them both in action alongside our Gaffer and exisiting team!

Look out for more new signings over the coming weeks as we ramp up proceedings ahead of the new season!
