Season 2019-20 – Holmesdale

The season may have come to an sudden end and all results expunged but games did take place and plenty of teams had a year to remember. Here we look back at some of the sides that had an impressive First Division campaign.

Holmesdale

After a 6th placed finish last season the Dale kicked on further this time around and were in 3rd position when the season was brought to an early end. With 4 promotion places on offer and 7 clubs in the hunt for them with we were denied a thrilling end to the campaign and unfortunately for Holmesdale they were denied the right reward for their efforts throughout the year.

Holmesdale had 8 games to play and a Points Per Game average of 2.12, the second best in the Division, and if that had continued through the full 32 games they would have comfortably sealed a top 4 spot with around 68 points.

Unplayed Games

Lewisham Boro, Kent Football, Forest Hill Park, Croydon, Stansfeld, Rochester Utd, Rusthall, SC Thamesmead
8 games left – 4 against promotion rivals

A very impressive stat is that Holmesdale only conceded 17 goals in their 24 league games. That was by far the best defensive record in the Division.

Selected wins

4-1 Lydd Town
4-0 Snodland Town
4-1 Bridon Ropes

5-0 Meridian VP
4-0 Sutton Athletic

League Defeats x3

Summary

It was a huge shame that the enforced early end to the season denied us of a thrilling promotion race in the First Division. Holmesdale were right in the mix for the honours and Lee Roots and his team should be extremely proud of their efforts throughout the year.
