Season so far – FC Elmstead

FC Elmstead are one of the teams firmly in the SCEFL First Division promotion race. Here we have a look at how their season has gone so far.

After a 13th placed finish last season Elmstead have made clear improvements this time around and their current points tally has already passed last years despite playing 12 games less so far. They are firmly in the promotion mix but so are many others and their current 5th placed will not be enough to see them reach the promised land so another step up in performances is needed over the coming weeks.

FC Elmstead have 10 games to play so 30 points are up for grabs. They currently have a Points Per Game average of 1.90 which if it continues to the end will probably mean they will miss out. To hit my suggested target of 64 points their PPG will need to improve to around 2.20 for the final 10 games meaning they will need 7 wins and a draw from those which will be a tough challenge for Ennio Gonnella’s lads but one they will relish going for.

Still to play

Rusthall (H), Holmesdale (H), SC Thamesmead (H), Lewisham Boro (A), Greenways (A), Lydd Town(H), Rusthall (A), Bridon Ropes (A), Rochester Utd (A), Forest Hill (H).
10 games left – 5 against promotion rivals

Selected wins

4-1 Forest Hill Park
4-1 Lewisham Boro
4-1 Bridon Ropes
5-1 Meridian VP

League Defeats x4

3-1 Holmesdale (A)
3-1 Kennington (A)
2-1 Greenways (H)
2-0 Stansfeld (H)

The game at Stansfeld was the only time in the league that FC Elmstead have failed to score in the League this season. They are currently the 7th top scorers and have conceded the 3rd least amount of goals.

Top League Scorers
Marcus Cassius – 9
Steven Karkari – 6
Richard Atkins – 4
Ashley Bertrand – 4
Jerome Walker – 4
Jordan Anderson – 4

Cup Competitions

There has been little success in the Cups this season with the one highlight being an 8-1 First Round win over Kent Football Utd in the Kent Senior Trophy.

Summary

Good luck to FC Elmstead as they play the season out and aim to seal promotion to the Premier Division. They are clearly having a great season and a top 4 spot would be a great achievement and well deserved. Ennio has quickly assembled a top quality squad that is regularly added to and is well worth an opportunity of a place at Step 5.
