What a day today was in the SCEFL Premier Division!
10 games, 46 goals, 7s and 8s, last minute winners and a new league leader, we even had a 0-0…. What a day!
Let’s start the round-up in South London where there had been an overnight change of ‘tiers’ to the Covid restrictions but it all ended in ‘Joy’ for Tunbridge Wells as they were 3-1 victors at Fisher to move to the top of the table.
Ryan Cheek got the opener, Euan Sahadow made it two and James Nurden got the third for Wells as they kept their unbeaten run going to hit the peak.
7 wins from 9 with 2 draws gives them 23 points, 2 more than any other side – a great start to the season for Richard Styes and his side.
Defeat for Fisher drops them a place to 12th ahead of a midweek trip to AFC Croydon.
The Rams will also be looking forward to that fixture as it will give them the chance to quickly get an 8-3 loss to Chatham Town out of their system.
The Chats were ruthless today, netting their 8 goals in just over an hour with 5 of them coming unanswered before the break.
Ryan Hayes scored a first half hat-trick while Dan Bradshaw took all of 66 minutes to get his 3 goals. Jack Evans netted as usual as did Reece Butler, who has now come up from the back to score 5 goals this already this season.
An improved second half saw the visitors reply through Emiliano Lika, Abbas Oduncu and Jermaine Green but the day belonged to Chatham and they are now second thanks to this big win.
Corinthian v Sheppey United was billed as the BIG game of the day and it definitely delivered, with 7 goals, late drama all resulting in a first loss in the league for the hosts in 51 weeks.
The game started at an electric pace with Billy Bennett giving the visitors a 2nd minute lead before Emmanuel Oloyede levelled shortly after.
Connor Wilkins sooned put the Ites back in front but Eman levelled again to make it 2-2 at half-time.
Oloyede completed his hat-trick on the hour mark to give his side the lead for the first time and it looked like it would stay they way as we entered the final stages of the game.
However Sheppey had other ideas and deep into injury time they scored twice to take the game. Firstly through Danny Leonard before Jack Midson got the match winner.
A dramatic end to a dramatic game.
Corinthian drop to third after that rare loss with Sheppey United one place behind them in 4th.
Beckenham Town put in a huge performance to win 7-0 at Punjab United.
Danny Phillips, Tyrone Pink, Ryan Hall, Callum Henry and Joe Nwoko all scored for Becks with Tunde Aderonmu also netting twice against his old side, as Beckenham won in stunning style to move up to 5th in the table.
The heavy defeat for Punjab sees them drop to 14th place.
Glebe were also among the goals as they scored 5 of the 7 in their match at Bearsted.
Jamie Philpot hit a hat-trick within the first 20 minutes with Frankie Sawyer adding a double later on meaning strikes from Lekan Majoyegbe and Joel Wakefield for the ‘Bears’ counted for little.
With the win Glebe are now 10th whle Bearsted are 13th.
Tower Hamlets remain bottom of the table and are still looking for their first win after defeat today at Deal Town.
Denilson Carvalho scored from the spot for the basements boys but Sam Wilson netted early and Lee Scott late to give the Hoops all 3 points and a 9th placed spot.
Erith & Belvedere finally sealed their first victory and did it well with a 3-0 success at home to Canterbury City.
Jamie Humphris, Guy Mpungi and Henry Dasofunjo all scored for the Deres to swap places with their visitors and begin their belated charge up the league.
Hollands & Blair continued their fine form, beateing Welling Town 2-0 to go 6th.
Calum McGeehan and Matt gething were on target for Blair against a Welling side that have lost 4 on the bounce and are now into the bottom half of the Division.
At Cobdown K Sports recorded their 4th 1-1- draw of the season in a tight encounter with Lordswood.
It was a first draw for the Lords who scored through Billy Lewins with Chris Carcary levelling the game for the hosts.
Balham and Crowborough Athletic played out a 0-0 draw at the Mayfield Stadium.
