24 SCEFL sides got to take to the field today and for many of them it was their first bit of Pre-season action.
It is not all about results and scorelines at this stage with players trying to improve their fitness and Managers making decisions on who will be making their squads this season.
However, results give us an idea of where teams are at so here is a quick rundown of what occured today.
The first match kicked-off before 11am today yet Chatham Town were alert and awake enough to earn a draw against Phoenix Sports. Pat Geddis with the Chats goal against their higher level opposition. Corinthian returned from their Club tour to Brugge with a win against Broadbridge Heath this morning. The Hoops were made to work hard for their 2-1 victory by their Southern Combination opponents.
Lewisham Borough made the short trip to Greenwich to take on Kent County side Metrogas and came away with a 3-2 win in an entertaining game. Like many others Crowborough Athletic had plenty of trialists on view and the Management would have liked what they saw in their 1-1 draw at Crawley DG. Erith Town proved much too strong for a young Tooting Mitcham side, with ruthless finishing seeing them run out 4-0 winners. Glebe had no answer for the attacking threats of Cray Valley PM with Francis Babalola hitting a double for the former SCEFL side in a 3-0 Millers win.
Ramsgate are heavily fancied to do well in the Isthmian South East Division this year but they could not score past Tunbridge Wells, which must have pleased their new boss. National League South side Hemel Hempstead were much too strong for Deal Town and they were the top scorers of the day hitting 7 at the Charles Sports Ground.
In an all-SCEFL clash Lordswood saw off First Division side Holmesdale 3-1. Luke Medley scored twice with Klaudio Krasniqi getting the third as the new look Lords impressed form the start. Holmesdale got a lot from the game too with 23 players take to the field and never once looking far off their opponents. Further all-SCEFL games saw Fisher and Sutton Athletic draw 0-0 and Rochester United come away from SC Thamesmead with a 2-0 win. David Abe and Reece Gillies with the goals for Rochester.
AFC Croydon defeated ex-tenants Westside 3-1 the same score that Rusthall beat Peacehaven while Punjab United claimed a 2-0 victory over Sporting Bengal. Croydon led early at Horley Town yet couldn’t hold on, eventually losing 2-1 to their Southern Combination Premier opponents. Kennington had an away game at home, collecting a 3-0 win over their hosts under 23 side. Joe Fisher, Tom Scorer and Richard Quigley got the goals for Kennington. Sheppey United were also impressive as they saw off a young Bromley side 4-1 in a dominant performance.
The most entertaining game of the day appeared to come at Cobdown as K Sports pushed National League side Ebbsfleet United all the way before being edged out in a 7-goal thriller. Regan Corke, Callum Marshall and Charlie Smith with the goals for the Paperboys.
In the late kick off Meridian VP made it back-to-back PSF wins when seeing off the Cray Valley Development team 2-0. Kozzie and Toyeeb Babatunde getting on the scoresheet once more for the hosts in that one.
