SCEFL First Division

Kent Football United 1-1 SC Thamesmead
Stansfeld 1-3 Phoenix Sports Reserves

The points were shared in the only Premier Division game on this day in 2019 with Adam Woollcott equalising a Laurent Hamici opener as Punjab United drew 1-1 with Canterbury City.

Phoenix Sports Reserves put on one of their best performances of the Season, in one of their very last as a SCEFL side, to defeat Stansfeld 3-1 and earn the points that take them out of the bottom 2. In a dominant first half the young visitors raced into a two-goal lead and in truth it could easily have been more. Some fine saves from the home keeper kept the score down but ultimately he was helpless to prevent them in the end. The attacking pace was the big difference and the first goal came this way with Liam Donaldson outpacing and outsmarting the defender before stroking the ball home in the 16th minute. The lead was doubled when Kameron Mendez headed home a corner before a classic team celebration infront of the on-hand photographer.

The hosts came back into the game in the second hand and Keeper, Martin Grant, had to come to the rescue a few times including a fabulous save that brought applause from around the ground. He was to be beaten just before the hour mark though when Joe Minter converted a penalty which set up a tense final half hour. Phoenix ended the game strongly though and just minutes after missing a sitter Germaine Jeannoel wrapped the game up with a fine solo effort just before the end of the game.

James Day and Joel Mensah were the scorers in the draw between Kent Football United and SC Thamesmead.

A report on the day’s action from scefl.com

This season’s Champions, Greenwich Borough, had no game today – their final game is next Saturday at Ashford.

Confirmed as runners-up, Hollands & Blair have had an enormously successful first season in the League. They drew 1-1 with Sevenoaks Town who’s current 5th place is still under challenge from Corinthian. Both goals came in the first half with Tom Michelson netting for Blair before John Lord levelled for the Oaks.

Ashford United are confirmed in 3rd place after their win at Holmesdale. Quentin Conteh opened for the Dalers then Josh Wooley made it 1-1 before the break. In the second half the prolific Shaun Welford put the Nuts & Bolts in front but then Steven Kokari seemed to have grabbed a share of the points with just 5 minutes left to play. Not so though as Taser Hassan popped up in the final minute to give the visitors all three points.

Lordswood‘s draw today at Corinthian means 4th place is still up for grabs. Kyle McDonald gave the Lords the lead but within 2 minutes Conor Johnson had levelled. Malik Quani scored for the Lords on the stroke of half time then in the second half Jack Bath scored for a share of the points.

Another Ryan Philpott hat-trick helped Canterbury City jump 2 places to 7th after their 6-1 win at home to Beckenham Town. City’s other goals came from Pat Nzuzi (2) and Dave Pilcher. The lone Becks goal was scored by Kristian Robinson.

Cray Valley PM are level on points with City after this 2-1 defeat at the hands of Fisher at Badgers Sports. Marcus Elliott scored the only first half goal for the Millers then Luke Haidarovic and Max Rothwell clinched the three points for the Fish in the second half.

Goals from Nad Nwitua and Liam Wright put paid to Crowborough Athletic‘s aspirations at Erith & Belvedere while AFC Croydon Athletic fared much better at home to Erith Town. 2 goals from Raheem Sterling-Parker, the second from the penalty spot, ensured a comfortable home win.

And finally, Croydon welcomed Rochester United to the Croydon Arena but lost out on this best-of-five thriller. Tom Carr opened the scoring for the Spartans before Karl Douglin levelled from the spot. Carr restored the Spartans lead, also from the spot, before half time. The Trams came back again in the second half through Lauris Chin but Carr completed his hat-trick to take the spoils with 10 minutes left to play.

Deal Town Tunbridge Wells was postponed.
