GOALKEEPER Harry Mills was Peacehaven’s hero as he saved a crucial shootout penalty.

With the FA Vase clash with Balham all square at 2-2 at full time, the game went to a penalty shootout to decide who went through.

With the shootout poised in favour of the home side, Balham had to score their fifth and final kick to give themselves a chance of progressing. Up stepped the Balham forward who saw his effort brilliantly saved by Mills as he dived to his left to deny the visitors.

Throughout the shootout, Peacehaven had their noses in front right from the start when Balham managed to hit the bar with their first effort.

Cam Wiltshire opened Haven’s shootout account, followed by Max Hollobone, Jake Brocklebank and then Tyler Scafton before Mills’ heroics.

In normal time Peacehaven had to come from behind after going 1-0 down in the 23rd minute when Tom Lanek scored a good goal in the top right hand corner.

Peacehaven were only behind for seven minutes before Callum Edwards scored after a Hollobone shot fell to Edwards who’s low hard shot beat the visitors’ ‘keeper to make it 1-1.

On 39 minutes Peacehaven were ahead after Hollobone had two efforts from range before the ball fell to defender Harry Read who buried his shot for his second goal in two games.

On 59 minutes Balham were level when the ball was squared in and Cam Gordon made it 2-2.

And that’s how things stayed until the dramatic penalty shootout finale.

Attendance: 208.
