Latest News – 17th August 2020

Following the Steps 5/6 Meeting on the 17th August 2020, the FA have been unable to give us the news that fans can yet return to grounds.

The FA’s proposal for the return of spectators to games at Steps 3 to 7 with effect from 1st September was put to the Government on 6th August.  A response is expected imminently, but there are no guarantees when it will come back or which way it will go. It was suggested that clubs should lobby their local MP to try and encourage some progress.

It has been confirmed that the Extra-Preliminary Round of the FA Cup will be played on the scheduled date of Tuesday 1st September, even if it has to be behind closed doors. The draws for the early rounds of the FA Cup and FA Vase will be released tomorrow.

We are currently still planning for a 5th September start to the season, and that is the FA’s hope, so we ask clubs to continue their preparations for that date until told otherwise.

We fully support the safe return of supporters back into grounds and are hoping for better news on this front in the coming days.
