Kennington name new Captain for next season

Gary Clarke has been announced as the new Kennington captain, ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The box-to-box midfielder took on the mantle for the second half of the campaign with incumbent Tad Greenfield out injured, however manager, Dan Scorer has now formally handed the armband to Clarke, after the 34-year-old committed his future to the side.

Clarke had been in imperious form prior to last season’s early curtailment, as Ton’s leading goalscorer with 19 in all competitions from 33 starts – and catching the eye with a number of man-of-the-match performances.

Scorer said: “It’s fantastic news – I spoke to Gary at length before about what he wanted to do and felt at the time he needed to let his body rest.

“But since we’ve had this period away, he’s feeling good and has a lot more to give, which is brilliant for us.

“It was a no-brainer for me after he took over last season with Tad’s injuries. Gary’s a great leader to have on the pitch, and it’s much deserved after the performances he put in last season.”

In addition, central defender, Calvin Sedenu has been awarded the vice captaincy.

Scorer added: “Not only has Calvin been a massive help in adding a bit more strength and discipline to our back four since coming in, but he’s a fantastic character in dressing room and on the pitch, and is very well respected by the group.
