Hollands & Blair got back to winning ways with an emphatic 4-1 victory over AFC Croydon Athletic at a chilly Star Meadow on Saturday.
Sam Welch, Caleb Bearman-Dyce, Stuart West and Louis Valencia were all on target for the home side before Abbas Agoro grabbed a late consolation for the Rams.
The three points took Blair back up to fifth in the Sea Pioneer SCEFL table, level on points with Tunbridge Wells, but while the Culverden Stadium outfit have three games in hand, the two teams have yet to meet this season.
With boss Si Halsey starting a four game ban, on the pitch Harry Goodger (suspension) joined the number of Blair players already missing but those who did play performed well under Luke Harvey.
After a slow start Blair took a tenth minute lead, Valencia sent in a free-kick from the left, West rose high to nod goalwards and apparently it was Welch that got the final touch past Marcus Bellrosi although it was the referee’s assistant confirming that the ball had crossed the line.
The visitors then had the ball in the net, following a quick break Joe Nwoko lifted the ball over the advancing Adam Highsted but as the ball bounced goalwards and with Callum McGeehan chasing back to try and clear, Umara Alpha made the decision to knock the ball into the unguarded goal – only to correctly be given offside.
Valencia scuffed an effort straight at the keeper before Blair went 2-0 up in the 36th minute. Liam Stone got down the left and crossed to the near post where Bearman-Dyce was on hand to clip the ball over Bellrosi and into the far corner, his fifth goal of the season.
Blair had penalty appeals waved away by referee Dan Doyle, West appearing to be fouled, but then a West heder forced a flying save from the Rams no.1.
Whatever got said in the away dressing room at the break quickly went out of the window when the lead was increased just two minutes into the second-half. Jack Clark failed to clear and the ball fell invitingly for West to swivel and fire home from twelve yards out.
Former Tonbridge Angels and Rusthall striker Sam Jones came on for his debut replacing the hard working Bearman-Dyce before the home side went 4-0 up with 67 minutes on the clock.
A poor clearance from Bellrosi was picked up by Valencia, he drove forward, left a defender on his backside with a neat turn before firing a right-foot effort into the far side of the net.
Further substitutions saw Mehmet Piro become another debutant, the former Greenwich Borough man replaced Stone on the left while Justin Ascheri returned to action in place of Cameron Heffernan.
With six minutes remaining AFC Croydon grabbed what turned out to be no more than a consolation when Abbas Agoro scrambled the ball home from close range to complete the scoring.
