First Division Trio ‘Up For The Cup’

Following yesterday’s FA Cup Update reaction has been coming in from the included Clubs, most notably the two sides taking part in the competition for the first time in their history.

We may not have the draw yet but we know the teams that will be in it with Kennington, Stansfeld and Sutton Athletic joining all 21 Premier Division sides at the Extra Preliminary Round Stage.

For Kennington and Stansfeld it will be their first time playing in the most famous football competition in the World and both are happy!

‘Ton’ Boss Dan Scorer feels it is great reward for the hard work done by those behind the scenes at Kennington.

He said: “When I took over as manager, my first ambition was just to get us in the Kent County Premier, then after that you assess things season-by-season, but it’s fair to say that at that time something like taking the club into the FA Cup seemed a long way off.

“It’s brilliant for the club and is reward for the players who have put in all the work on the pitch, and everyone behind the scenes, particularly the likes of the Lancaster’s and Kevin Hayden who have been with the club forty, maybe fifty years.

For Stansfeld it will be the first time in their 123 year history that they get to play an FA Cup game!

The Club were in joint 4th place when the season came to an early end last time and after being denied a shot at promotion they finally get some luck go there way.

Sutton Athletic have been there before and deserve another shot after a tremendous run last time. Indeed they were the last surviving SCEFL side in the competition and had one of the best results of it, beating Step 4 side Ashford Town 6-0 following another good win over Deal Town.

All 3 sides had a slice of fortune as this year they were drawn out of the hat from all of the First Division sides that applied for entry.

Now they eagerly await the Extra Preliminary Round Draw on 18th August where they will find out their opposition for a one off match taking place on the first day of September.
