An update from Lydd Town as star player moves on

Lydd Town have lost the services of star player Dale Horton who has taken up the chance to move to a Premier Division Club.

Horton has scored 7 times this season in the League and Cup so he is sure to be missed by his former side.

Lydders Manager Mickey Doyle gave an update on that news and other matters from around the Club in this intervew with the Club Website.

How’s life at Lydd going?

MD – Life is going well. We are all working hard on and off the pitch and things are starting to improve all round from when I took over.

How do you feel the start of the season as gone, as you had FA Vase and 3 tough openers?

Start of the season has been very encouraging with 1 win, a draw and a loss against what most feel are top 6 sides. In the FA Vase I’m so proud of the lads, we made club history but fell to the lottery of pens. So all in all a positive start

Let’s go back to the FA Vase, what a day for the club, taking it to a place it has never been before?

MD – We made hard work of it (Broadbridge Heath game) to be honest we should of finished the game way before it went to pens but got through and it was deserved in my eyes. The trip to Tooting Bec should have gone better if I’m being truthful. We played very well in the first half but second half they got the better of us and it was end to end. Then we lost the lottery of penalties. I’m proud of all the lads in the squad as they done me and the club proud.

Back to the league 1 win, a draw and a loss against what most feel will be the top 6 at the end of the season, you got to be pleased with that?

MD – Yes great result to start the campaign against a strong Stansfeld side. We played some great stuff but the 2nd game we lost to Holmesdale and we let ourselves down a bit as a group, myself included. The draw with Croydon was just as pleasing as a win, I know it sounds mad but playing with 10 for 60mins at 2-1 down is hard work, then going to 9 for the last 10mins you think the worst, but the lads dug in and in the end, it was a good point. But now the test is can we back it up and continue to produce performances and results.

Big Question is transfer news, 2 have left, who and why?

MD – Dale Horton has moved up a league to Canterbury City and we all wish him the best. I’m frustrated he didn’t see the bigger picture but that’s football.

Reece Mortimer has left for a while to get the passion back. Such a great guy, I like him a lot, we had a good honest chat and I respected Reece a lot in the first place but even more now. He is still signed but he just wants to play regularly and enjoy the game again. I personally wish him the best and he might come back we don’t know when.

With 2 gone have we done any Business ourselves?

MD – Yes we already had a few in a couple of weeks ago but we kept everything low key. See how they play out and we have just been busy. A separate release will happen later I believe so watch this space.
